Hasbro Pulse Fanstream: Studio Series TLK Hot Rod and Crosshairs, SS86 Bomb-Burst, more! https://www.allspark.com/hasbro-pulse-fan-first-stream-studio-series-tlk-hot-rod-and-crosshairs-ss86-bomb-burst-more/ Tue, 16 Aug 2022 17:09:42 +0000 https://www.allspark.com/?p=4906 Hasbro’s Transformers Fanstream on Hasbro Pulse is upon us, and with it some cool reveals!

First up are Royal Mail Transformers stamps, which feature two sets: an 8-piece versus pairing, and a five-piece Dinobot team mural (from which you can take the individual character portraits). There are multiple display and packing options available, too.

IDW’s Transformers work continues to move forward, with Shattered Glass II releasing its first issue alongside the TPB for the previous Shattered Glass Collection comics, and the James Roberts-curated “The Best of The Rarities” as well as the last issue of Last Bot Standing.

Studio Series got a sharp dose of more live-action film love from the first five movies: Hot Rod and Crosshairs from The Last Knight, and The Fallen from Revenge of the Fallen! The Autobots show off more of the Transformers team’s “witchcraft”, pulling unprecedentedly screen-accurate robot modes (with new approaches to things like Crosshairs’ duster) out of incredibly sleek vehicles (while also including specific touches like the altmode spoilers and Hot Rod’s I STOP DE TIME gun, “the only Transformers weapon that needs to be announced when it’s used”). It was noted that they also pulled from the CAD files from ROTF for The Fallen, who sports his weird shoulder/arm appendages and who, yes, comes with GIVE ME YOUR FACE action!

Also officially shown was the Core class Laserbeak (in pink “Bumblebee” disguise) from Transformers: Dark of the Moon, a heck of a way to debut the movie Bumblebee design at this price point.

G1 is also still represented in Studio Series 86, with Core class Wheelie and Voyager class Ironhide officially revealed (and with notes explicitly establishing that Ironhide’s height is based on in-show robot mode scale and the engineering brought about by the lack of partsforming), as well as Core class The Blue One (Rumble?), who comes with his piledrivers. Paraphrasing: “Is this the new standard for Core scale? Of course not, this was just the way we could release him”. (Mark pointed out later on that Rumble’s design moves the cassette drums (with structural rivets) a bit in order to allow for 3mm pegs for weapon attachments, a neat touch.)

Next was a set of reveals for Transformers Legacy, where we saw more of Pointblank (the box does say Pointblank, not Blanker) and his included Battle Master Peacemaker (who was first Hasbro-revealed this show). This was followed by a closer look at Crankcase and his retooling from Skids (including the spare tire in the back and the front grille that turns into a blaster for robot mode — and even an approximation of his shoulder blasters! Next, the team showed off the fourth Legacy Stunticon, Dead End and how he locks onto the Menasor frame for combined mode. (Breakdown was teased for Hasbro Pulse Con.) This was then followed by a better look at Skullgrin, confirming the decision to blend the robot and Pretender shell looks for Legacy’s robot mode, alongside the packaging (and confirming that the weapons will work with blast effects).

The team took a minute to mull the merits of Pretenders and shells (let Hasbro know in the comments there if you want to bring back the shells!), and apparently it was Mark who suggested the blending of designs since it wouldn’t be feasible to release robot-in-shell at retail (“Would they be Leader class?”).

After this the next Legacy topic was Beast Wars Inferno, whose articulated jaw allows for lots of “FOR THE ROYALTY” fun and whose blender-butt, while not spring-gimmicked, does still spin. It’s also worth noting that Mark clarifies that the initial samples have black insect eyes but they managed to pull a “switch key” (?) for more accurate blue eyes.

What followed was Legacy’s Armada Starscream, who comes with a non-clear wing sword and a sword-form-only Star Saber (and whose boosters/null cannons work with blast effects)! Echoing discussion at July’s SDCC, the team also said this figure kicks off “the 20th anniversary of Armada” and “foreshadows” more from Legacy, so… more Armada in the future?

We then got to see some more of Legacy Transmetal 2 Megatron, with packaging and amazing paint work shown off as well. This was followed by some more Core class reveals: Pretender Bomb-burst (sporting another blended Pretender shell/robot mode look, and having his inner-robot altmode) and a repack of WFC Kingdom Core class Soundwave (for those who had trouble finding one at the tail end of that line). (Bit of trivia: Core class Soundwave’s non-transforming Laserbeak cassette originally had a little head that could pop out for an approximation of robot mode, and even THAT had to get cut for budget!)

That was all for this round, but in Mark’s words, ” ‘Oh, they’re doing those guys too’… Just wait til you see where else we’re gonna go!”

Again, a nice blend of expected stuff, confirming leaks with better looks, and this brand team era’s refreshing and contagious enthusiasm for the brand and for engaging with the fans. IDW Announces My Little Pony Generation 5 Ongoing Comic https://www.allspark.com/idw-announces-my-little-pony-generation-5-ongoing-comic/ Thu, 17 Feb 2022 00:10:58 +0000 https://www.allspark.com/?p=2851 If you’ve been to a comic book store in recent years you may have noticed what a surprise hit IDW’s My Little Pony comics were, so it may come as little surprise that they are announcing a new ongoing comic series set in the world of A New Generation.

Here’s what we know so far. The title this time is simply My Little Pony. The series will follow the adventures of Sunny Starscout, Hitch Trailblazer, Izzy Moonbow, Zipp Storm, Pipp Petals, the stars of the Netflix film and upcoming animated series A New Generation, as well as their pet/sidekick Cloudpuff. Whether this Cloudpuff is a true pet or just another critter that won’t leave poor Hitch alone, we shall see. The plot follows the events of the film. One of the Unity Crystals has been stolen, and it’s up to the heroes to get it back.

The series is expected to release on May 5, with the first issue written by Celeste Bronfman and illustrated by Amy Mebberson. There will of course be variant covers, drawn by Amy Mebberson, JustaSuta and Brianna Garcia. We have images of what may be two of these covers.

Confirmed: IDW to lose the Transformers and G.I. Joe licenses at end of 2022 https://www.allspark.com/confirmed-idw-to-lose-the-transformers-and-g-i-joe-licenses-at-end-of-2022/ Fri, 21 Jan 2022 09:11:17 +0000 https://www.allspark.com/?p=2175 It may be time to start backing up your Comixology issues, because an era ends soon.

In an exclusive report that settles the rumors that have been swirling since late last year, The Hollywood Reporter confirms that IDW is set to lose the Transformers and G.I. Joe licenses at the end of 2022.

In a statement provided to The Hollywood Reporter, The company noted: “At the end of 2022, IDW will bid a fond farewell to the publication of G.I. Joe and Transformers comic books and graphic novels. […] We’re exceedingly proud of our stewardship of these titles – 17 years with the Robots in Disguise and 14 years with A Real American Hero – and thank the legion of fans for their unwavering support, month in and month out. We’re also eternally grateful to every one of the talented creators who helped bring these characters to four-color life through our comics.”

The company still has a healthy dose of storytelling planned to end the period on a high note. The main Transformers series and the Beast Wars comics will wrap at the end of the summer, and special one-shot projects “spotlighting heroes and villains from across the Transformers continuity” are also planned. G.I. Joe, on the other hand, also has a milestone issue coming up (G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #300), and that alongside various special projects like a new spring miniseries (G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero — Saturday Morning Adventures) are set to celebrate the wrap-up and the 3.75″ line’s 40th anniversary year.

IDW took up the Transformers license in 2005. This led to a decade-plus first continuity for Transformers sparked by the work of Simon Furman and continued by the work of writers like James Roberts, John Barber, Mairghread Scott, Nick Roche, Magdalene Visaggio, and more, and a second continuity kicking off in 2019 featuring the writing of Brian Ruckley and David Marriotte. Comics for the live-action movies, crossovers like the memorable Tom Scioli/John Barber creation Transformers vs. G.I. Joe, and even a new comic featuring Beast Wars, also enriched Transformers fiction over the course of the run. A powerful roster of artists, from E.J. Su to Don Figueroa t0 Alex Milne to Saren Stone to Josh Perez to Hayato Sakamoto to Anna Malkova to Johh Burcham to Joana Lafuente to Andrew Wildman to Kei Zama to Sara Pitre-Durocher and (pause to breathe) so, so many more, brought the characters and stories to life on the page.

The company did well with the G.I. Joe license as well since acquiring it in 2008, bringing new life to the brand’s rich comic history with innovative and gritty series from writers like Mike Costa and even a return to the classic A Real American Hero continuity with Larry Hama. This contributed to the franchise meshing with the IDW Transformers continuity as the “Hasbroverse”, featuring properties like Action Man, M.A.S.K, ROM, and Micronauts, came into its own.

IDW will continue to hold the comic publishing licenses for Dungeons and Dragons and My Little Pony.

As ever, we look back fondly on a long and memorable run, and remain optimistic for what comes next — whether it’s the rumored acquisition of the Transformers license by Robert Kirkman’s Skybound company, or anything else. Because, if we’re lucky, it never ends.

Raise a glass for 17 strong years, and share your favorite IDW Transformers and G.I. Joe moments with us at the Allspark Facebook page, on our partnered Discord at discord.gg/allspark, and on the Allspark Forums !
