The American dub is a little unclear because of how they wanted to tell the story differently. Everyone seems to know Naruto has the Nine-Tails, but no one seems to expect much from that. In the original Japanese there is more secrecy both from the other characters and from the audience. But it seems the American dub still has Naruto's parentage a close secret. I struggle with how that works. At the start of the series Naruto is about 12, I guess, and lives in what seems to be an apartment by himself. Who fed him when he was a baby? Who taught him to dress himself? No idea. I would think any 12-year-old orphan would want to know about his parents. Do they just tell him it is a secret? Or did they lie to him?

I guess or think they said that Jiraya brought him to the village. Did his mom not live in the village? Was Minato's marriage a secret? Maybe Jiraya just presented him as a foundling. Lady 5 knew and Lord 3 know. Kakashi must have known it all at least by the time he started training him.

I just don't see how it could work unless there was a public lie about him.

I believe Minato's marriage wasn't a secert, after all he was the four leader of the village/town/city and there was no reason to keep it a secert, it was just that the nine tails living in the body of his wife was a secert! My theory in regards to the basics of life was that he was raised by someone employed by the third to be the nanny for a time but they likely quit when Naruto became to much for them to handle, it was never explained about his life between when he was a baby and when he started ninja school, outside of the fact he was pretty much alone and everything he was doing was seeking attention! It was never really stated what truly inspired him to try and become the leader of the village outside of getting attention from the people to fill the void of loneliness within his heart which is one of the weak points of Naruto story and I guess the creator didn't bank on it becoming so popular and be considered one of the modern sucessors to Dragonball

I kind of assumed that different people were "assigned" to "Naruto duty" back when he was a toddler. It's just no one stuck around, because no one wanted to be around the "demon child". They all just immediately requested transfers whenever they got that job, until Naruto was old enough to look after himself. Everyone knew, they just all never talked about it, because they all sort of held a grudge against the Nine-Tails for being responsible for killing one of their leaders. Old grudges and learning letting go of the past being a big theme of Naruto and all.

...I mean, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. You would think SOMEONE would have taken baby Naruto in, if only because he was the Fourth's child, and all. You'd probably get some sort of stipend for that kind of thing from the government. I guess the idea was that their hatred of the Nine-Tails kind of blinded them to that. But, at some point, I guess you just have to shrug and let that plot hole go. You would think they'd use one of their dozens of spin-offs to clarify what happened there, but as far as I know, they never did.

Jiraiya couldn't have done it, since he was wandering around for his "research" projects. The Third Hokage probably SHOULD have been doing it, but he held a grudge against the baby, for hosting the demon that killed his protege. So, I guess some nameless series of faceless ninja probably were responsible for taking care of baby Naruto. Like those low-rank missions where Naruto had to go find lost cats. Only it's taking care of this orphan baby no one wants to be around, lest he explode in demonic fire suddenly, I guess.

When Sasuke goes to Orochimaru and he and Naruto fight, Naruto uses some 9 Tails chakra and Sasuke is all freaked out and can't figure out what is going on and it seems WAY late into the story for him to not know what is going on there. Maybe people don't talk and his parents died before they felt he was old enough to know, but no one's kid spread the rumor at school? And anyway besides that, 9 Tails has leaked before. It's just weird because in the American dub it is just as if everybody everywhere knows until suddenly Sasuke has no idea.

The last character is, the masoct character who can sense where Sakura's feathers are and is the one who able to transport the cast between worlds once they have recovered Sakura's feather in that world

Woof going old there. If you haven't yet, watch Xxxholic alongside or after Tsubasa as the two series have some ties to each other. Tsubasa is essentially Into the Clamp-Verse. Most of the characters are from different Clamp created manga and shows. Sakura and Syaoran are from Carcaptor Sakura originally and others that may not be fully integrated into the over all Tsubasa series do make appearances like Chi from Chobits. But be warned, neither Tsubasa or Xxxholic finished the story in their animes. And while the connections are there in the anime they never get to the major ramifications of how and why in the shows.

So, I'm playing Community Day (Cyndaquil) on Pokemon GO, but got the music turned off and jamming to my tunes, and a Cowboy Bebop album comes on, and now I'm wondering what a Pokemon/Cowboy Bebop mashup would look like...?

Monster hunting in space, I guess but then I not seen Cowboy Bebop, so I can't be sure, all I really know about it, is the ending scene where the final fate of the MC is in question

I just watched the latest ep of My Hero Academia season 7, it was a reasonable ep, thou this point in the story, much of the series is clearly going to be battles/a war to stop the villians in Japan

If you like action anime, do yourself a favor and watch Cowboy Bebop. The whole series. You can watch the movie if you want, but only after. It's pure, animated "cool". Mostly episodic, but there are threads of a story throughout the series. Several threads, actually, as we generally only learn more about each character in bits and pieces. It has one of the coolest soundtracks ever. There are all sorts of references to movies and TV and pop culture throughout. Go watch the series, then read the spoiler text:

As far as the ending goes, while there was certainly an opening for a (theoretical) follow-up (that never happened) to save Spike at the last moment, I don't think the intention was for him to live: earlier in the episode we already saw Julia, his love interest, die, with a flock of white birds flying into the sky in the background, a reference to a motif used by action director John Woo to indicate souls flying to heaven. When Spike collapses at the end of the episode, another flock of white birds flies past and up into the sky, while the song "Blue" plays, both of which seem like pretty unambiguous cues that he died. And, I believe the movie (that came after) is set at some point within the timeframe of the series before the finale; had they wanted Spike to be alive after the finale, they could have set it then, but they didn't. His story arc was complete, so they let him die.

Just finished some current series:

Astro Note: Cute romcom with an alien hiding on Earth. There's some nice character development with the supporting chars, with one of them being non-binary/possibly trans. Will post more about it in the LGBT thread.

The Duke of Death and his Maid: Bittersweet fantasy romcom. While there's no harem, there are a disporportionate amount of cute girls who don't really seem to serve a purpose other than being cute fanservice. It wasn't as bad as some series get, though. Still a cute and satisfying story.

A Condition Called Love: Cute shouhou romance. Not quite as gripping as other recent series out there, but not as formulaic either.

The Weakest Tamer: Ow, my heart. I really liked how they handled the isekai thing this time-more like a voice in the back of the head rather than clear cut memories of the prev life. A sad, but hopeful story and I def want more.

Also caught up on Frieren and Delicious in Dungeon, expecting more on these, too.

Just finished watching the latest ep of Chilling in Another world with my level 2 Cheat power, honestly, I like this show, a lot, its not taking the whole Isakai to seriously and its more a fun romp, while the MC is over powered, he using it to help people but apart of the series themes is racsim but done in a natural way along some war, yet the core of the story is our MC more or less living out his life in the new world and at first taming a female Lupin who goes on to become his wife and she is the best girl in the series, there is also secondary love story that slow build between one of the surporting female characters and the Dark One AKA Demon Lord but he not at all evil but merely a chilled out person! One of the other characters in this series is the unlucky Blonde Hero, whose name not been revealed, at first they are the one precvied to have been gifted all of the power upon summoning, but he not and despite having some stats, is nothing and has no magic and things go downhill for him due to his own actions, not the MC. I recomend this series if you are just looking to have a good time and a few laughs

Definitely did some things differently than typical shows of the genre. The main character's at times a borderline pacifist, doesn't knee jerk join the humans in war against the demons, he's actually in a wholesome relationship that progresses instead of him just stammering like he's afraid of cooties, there are a few pretty funny moments. But the star of the show is definitely his wife Fenrys, she's adorable and hilarious.

Started on Suicide Squad ISEKAI, but after a ep and a half, I'm dropping it, the animation is nice, but the story, is dam terrible, its not really giving a reason for its existance and the characters are not likable outside of Harley, Clayface is the worse written character, written more of a sterotype bad actor and while the characters have bombs in their necks, the writters never gave a lot of thought to Clayface when the bomb would be pretty much, useless as he able to shape shift and pass through objects! I feel that this isn't going to add anything to isekai as a gene and feels like it was written by someone with no real understanding of it and only using the bob standard view and putting DC characters in it, but then its not even made clear what the group mission is meant to be as somehow, the helicopter, is taken down, while in midflight, crashlanding and leaving the squad as the only surivors
