A Long Time Ago In a Galaxy Far, Far Away.... - Star Wars General Discussion

They did something they are ashamed of that is still a secret to Osha and us. And when you do something dangerous at work and cover it up, I believe you risk a heavy fine when OSHA finds out.
Hardy har har, hehe

Saw the new ep.

Was there a mandate by George Lucas that they can't make Star Wars sexy? After the whole slave outfit Leia, that is. Acolyte seems to be doing a whole new thing about it.

I remember reading about a lightsaber weapon variation before but, neat.

Ep is a whole transition to whatever reveals will be shown in the next ep. But aren't we, like two eps left? Or four? I'm wondering if we'll get another main enemy other than this Master.

This show continues to be, meh. I don't have any outright problems with it, it just doesn't have any real hooks for me, and hasn't delivered enough cool characters/droids/gear etc. As not great as Book of Boba was, most episodes had a cool new creature or something. The 4 armed sand monster was amazing, rancor riding Boba was childhood toys come to life moment, hot rod N1 was rad, old west showdowns etc.

So far nothing has stood out to me in this series. Sol and the Stranger are both pretty great, but the other characters have left me pretty "Luke" warm. The battle in ep5 was cool, but it's really been the only noteworthy action of the entire series so far.

I actually liked the 'kill the Jedi one by one' trope. And the boss is pretty cool. It's just that I'm not wild about Osha and Mae. I'm sure we can infer that tragedy of Darth Smilo (as I heard reviews call him) and, while I'm sure it'll be generic, it'll probably be more interesting than the pair’s dead family mystery.

In one episode he asked Sol, "You don't remember me?". I can't remember if he was still wearing his mask. It is possible he meant from the drugstore the other day, but it felt at the time that he meant other history. Then in the next episode we find out he was a padawan. It is hard to get an impression of the size of the Jedi order, but I guess I feel like it is small enough that any Jedi who was interested would get a chance to meet every youngling.

I went to refresh my memory how many Jedi Jacosta Nu said had left the order and I see that apparently the 20 are commonly meant to be masters that have left. Presumably the number of Knights and Padawans would be higher. It is still bothering me. The Jedi should all definitely be aware of the people that have left the order in their lifetime both because of gossip (which could be less of a problem with Jedi than at my job, I guess) and because of security. We taught you how to move things with your mind and swing a lightsaber without cutting off your own arm, we're gonna try to keep an eye on you.

I don't think it's a longshot to think they wash their hands of those that fail training or leave as long as those individuals go away quietly. Hubris has always been one of the great problems with the Order, and it's always been their way or nothing (as they've established in the interaction we've seen with the witches too). This is sort of supported by how we saw them handle Ahsoka many years later. They hung her out to dry and even once proven innocent, their response was mostly whoops, sorry lol. And when she quit they just let her go. She was a bit more well known thanks to her master and associated connections, but I'm sure there were still plenty of Jedi that had no idea.

That being said, my wife taught middle school for a number of years, and while there are some students she would remember after fifteen years, they are the minority. And in this case, I think they are setting up a case of abuse of The Stranger, which would've likely been hushed up and hidden from the rank and file.

Not going to bother with spoiler tags at this point, but I think in episode 6 either it is significant that the scar on Qimir's back is shaped like something from a whip and then they went out of their way to show that the green lady Jedi's sabre has a whip-like ability, or we're supposed to think it's significant when it isn't, but with only two episodes left I'm doubtful that it's some kind of misdirection.

I think it is a stretch to make that dichotomy.

For one thing, that is a REALLY long scar along vital territory to be a lightsaber and survive it. If that whip smacked into him, it would have cut him in half. But further, the scar isn't just curved. It branches. If it is more than just how a makeup artist worked it out on their own (which is possible. Remember, Kylo Ren's scar didn't turn out where it should because they liked how it looked another way), it is more indicative of Force lightning. Or torture with a traditional blade. He keeps those.

How about some info on new kids toys?

Entertainment Earth has updated their preorder pages for the newest waves of Epic Hero products. Wave 2 single figures still have an unannounced slot, but along with Darth Vader and Mando being carried over, new figures are Bo Katan, Darth Maul and Moff Gideon in his beskar battle armor (the first figure of this design that I know of!). Yakface still has Yoda and Darktrooper as "rumored" figures

For Deluxe, the only new figure is a Mandalorian/BoBF Boba Fett figure with gauntlet flame thrower and missile firing backpack. Yakface still has deluxe figures for IG-12 and Chewbacca on the slate as rumored future releases.

YakFace is still listing several items like a Speederbike assortment and several multipack assortments (multiple names for the same thing? Store exclusives?). The N1 Starfighter is due August 1st, with Entertainment Earth having removed the listing (listed too early?). EE has a drop from Hasbro noted for July 31, indicating a slate of fall/holiday releases.

I read a couple recaps. I couldn't resist.

After last week, I thought finding out more about Qimir would be the rest of the series, but they spent half of the rest of the series without him and now I wonder if we'll even find out any more about him.

Interestingly, the show made us really sympathetic to Sol at the beginning. We had learned from OGT that Luke's attachment was what saved the galaxy, so we quickly forgive Sol for being a softly in a cold, rigid Jedi Order. But they turned that on its head. I wouldn't call him a villain, but his attachment is a real problem and caused a lot of real problems.

Yeah - it was a clever way to flip it on its head. It's not been just Luke's tendency towards attachment but virtually everyone's in the SW universe.

I'm a little let down I guess by the "misunderstanding" though. Like, the one mom basically sabotaging everything is one thing, but when Mother Aniseya gets done saying the Jedi shouldn't return and then bursts into black magic dust (but not fast enough to hide "evil" pointy teeth), I'm like what exactly did everyone think would happen. All she had to do when she first walked up was say something to the effect of, "I wish you hadn't returned, but Osha says she wishes to join you and we will respect that." That would've short-circuited Mother Koril, and let them potentially deal with the conflagration.

Basically, it seems like they weren't quite sure how to account for what happened so they forced it (star wars pun). And then wow - Indara straight mentally Force-killed everyone else? What's up with that?

I will say, I really want Master Indara to visit a dermatologist, that mole looks a bit questionable. Carrie-Anne Moss does not actually have a mole, so I'm not sure why they decided at add one, but all I could think was...

I haven't taken the time to review, but a reddit guy said that Kelnacca's home was full of witchy symbols. They might have just been Wookiee symbols. But he thought that perhaps the witches were stuck in Kelnacca's head. Not dead. Until later I mean.

They've done a lot of nice head fakes in this show. Remember when we were all like "Carrie Ann Moss' part was so small, but she made the most of it" and Kelnacca died off-screen and the producer came out and said, "Yeah, we would have liked to do a fight scene, but it just didn't work with how we were telling the story"?

Really solid episode.

I figured from the get go it would be a "misunderstanding" but the witches really do seem to come out more on the villainous side right now. Wookie Jedi fight was cool. 1-5 where pretty meh, but 6-7 was pretty great.

OMG, an episode where the Jedi are…CHARACTERS?! What nerve!

The last couple episodes HAVE been good, and interesting, and it’s just sad we had to slog through 4, largely, boring ass episodes to get here. That’s been a prevailing issue with many Star Wars and most Marvel TV series. Disney wants people to make these projects, but many of the stories are fit for maybe a 2-3 part “mini series” deal, but get stretched out to 8-10 episodes so Disney can stretch out the attention as long as they can.

I watched the episode this morning. I felt like it was not as hard on Sol as one of the recaps that I read. The recap said he initially tried to save both girls and then decided to just save Osha and that sounded like he decided he didn't care about Mae. But what happens on the episode is that the realizes he cannot save both. He tries his best and it isn't working.

That seems unlikely, he doesn't have the black eyes like we've seen possessions create. That being said,
we still haven't seen how Mae actually survived so maybe Koril is the one behind the scenes and is using Qimir.

Saw it. I liked the twists and the cool enough fight. Made me like the other jedi. Could possibly say it was the fault of just one person but, well, it happens.

The Vergence, I bet, is the Dark and Light Side. Maybe.

Btw, what was the race of the shaggy alien in the Genndy Tartakovsky Clone Wars, when General Grievous first appeared? The one that Grievous faked out by releasing his saber grip, regrabbing it then cutting him down? He wasn't a wookie, right?
